For as long as Australians have gone to war, memorials have been built around the country to honour and remember men and women in service and conflict. The Kokoda Memorial Terrace in the Dandenong Ranges National Park was built to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Isurava, a significant battle fought by Australians along the Kokoda Track.
We worked as part of a consortium with Parks Victoria, Michael Smith and Associates (Landscape Architects), Antartica Group (Architects) and Perrett Simpson Stantin (Civil and Structural Engineers) to create the remembrance site and educational resource for the community. It was a privilege and honour to work with veterans of the 39th battalion to bring their personal stories to life. An experience that will stay with us for ever.
